ITECS team members and managers who retired or moved on to job positions external to ITECS were taking their years of experience and unique knowledge with them, leaving the ITECS team and the College of Engineering vulnerable to time-consuming and cost-ineffective churn.

Starting with little more than a list of subject matter areas and a handful of Google Docs, Ms. Bidgood decided to build NCSU accessibility, branding, and legal requirements into a new documentation style guide and template; to create a structure for consistency, quality, and ease-of-use; and to incorporate workflow analysis into every documented process.  Nine months later, with technical input from several ITECS team members…we had cranked out the first 25+ Google Docs now available from our web page—the ITECS Monster Table of Contents.

This new library of customized ITECS internal documentation repeatedly saves time and money not only for ITECS staff but especially for its customers—the staff and faculty of NC State’s College of Engineering.
